Centrop opts for sustainable energy

Construction of the largest solar energy installation in the Zaanstreek was recently completed on Centrop's own premises on Symon Spiersweg in Zaandam. The installation consists of nearly 9,000 solar panels mounted on the warehouses, covering a surface area of 17,656 m². The installation can generate clean electricity for approximately 800 households, reducing CO2 emissions by 1.6 million kilograms annually.

On March 7, the Mayor of Zaanstad performed the opening by activating a screen in the headquarters lobby, on which all the installation's performance data has been visible ever since. Centrop views the project as a valuable addition to the company's exemplary role in corporate social responsibility. For instance, Centrop actively promotes the use of wood products sourced from sustainably managed forests and is FSC® and PEFC™ certified.

It is estimated that only 60% of the solar energy is used internally; the rest is fed back into the grid, but other uses are also being considered, including a Zaan collective, which could supply a significant number of Zaan households with electricity.

With this investment, Centrop underscores its long-term vision for sustainability and continuity. By opting for large-scale on-site renewable energy generation, not only is the ecological footprint reduced, but a contribution is also made to stable and future-proof business operations. In doing so, Centrop demonstrates that responsible business practices go hand in hand with practical and well-considered policies.
